John 9:1-12

Sermon Response

THE BLINDMAN

The Text: Read John 9:1-12

Jesus heals a man born blind. The healing reminds the crowd of Jesus’ previous teaching and validates all that He has claimed to be. The conversation around the healing deals with the root cause of the blindness. Did the man sin? Did his parents? Jesus says, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”

Discuss:

  1. Why did the disciples ask the initial question?

  2. What is the “work of God”?

  3. Why did Jesus make mud out of his saliva and send the man to wash in the pool?

  4. Why do you think the neighbors questioned the blind man about Jesus?

Respond:
1. Do you agree that God uses suffering to reveal himself? Explain.

2. Read Romans 8:22-29. What is the purpose of suffering?

3. How does the bible suggest we get through seasons of suffering? 4. Describe a personal season of suffering. Did God use it to

conform you to the image of His Son? Explain.

Prayer

God give us the grace and strength to suffer well, to cry out in our times of need and trust in you. To believe there is hope in our suffering and that our hope is your good purpose for our lives.
