Sermon Response

The Text: John 11:55-12-1

A simple passage to let the reader know that the passover festival is near and Jesus will be heading toward Jerusalem soon. The mood in Jerusalem is one of excitement and expectation as all those who arrived early to ceremonially cleanse themselves discuss wether or not Jesus will show up.

The main idea for the message comes from vs 55. Why did the these men arrive over a week early to ceremonially cleanse themselves for the Passover? And what can we learn from their devotion to God?

Discuss:

  1. Why did the worshipers arrive early to ceremonially cleanse themselves? Read Leviticus 22:4-7

  2. Why did the worshipers put themselves through such crazy activities?

  3. What can we learn from the worshipers?

Respond:

1. Read Romans 12:1 - What does it look like for you to daily be a living sacrifice?

  1. Read 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - What does it mean to you, that your life has been bought at a price?

  2. Read Hebrews 10:22, John 13:10, and Ephesians 5:26. How do you currently wash yourself in the water of the Word? Does it work?

Prayer

Lord may we take our relationship with you seriously, may we daily surrender our lives unto you. Lord, give us grace and strength to flee from immorality, and give us a passion to daily wash in the water of your Word.
